Aimee Johnston named Hills February Player of the Month!
We are delighted to announce that Women’s 1st XV tighthead prop, Aimee Johnston, has been awarded the McCrea Financial Services Hills Player of the Month award for February!
A month which saw the team travel to Edinburgh to play Heriot’s Rugby Club in Round 1 of the Women’s Sarah Beaney Cup saw Hills come away with an outstanding 41-0 victory, with Aimee having a significant input in her destructive scrummaging role.
''We, her fellow players and our committee at Hughenden are all delighted at the award and also the progress Aimee has made on her rugby journey since she first came to Hillhead Jordanhill as a 16-year-old in 2017” noted Hills Vice President, Philippa Abernethy. “Her home is in Appin, some 15 miles north of Oban, and for her first 2 years at the club her Parents drove Aimee down and up the A82/A83, a 5 hour journey, once or twice a week when there were age grade games. She moved permanently to Glasgow in 2020, working in the social care sector where she is now an early years Practice Nurse. Her rugby skill set has improved considerably, and she is now immovable from her role in the Hills Women’s 1st XV front row. Aimee has played in 3 Sarah Beaney Cup finals and been on the winning side twice. Her progress and prowess have been recognised nationally and Aimee is now a member of the SRU’s Futures group, having just returned from a weekend camp at Inverclyde.”
Congratulations on the win Aimee, well deserved!
