Lou Brett Scoops Final Hills Player of the Month Award of the Season
We are delighted to announce that Hillhead Jordanhill Women’s 2nd XV full-back Lou Brett has been awarded the McCrea Financial Services Hills Player of the Month award for April/May 2023!
The overlap of months saw rapid progress in the performance levels of the aspiring women’s 2nd XV as they reached the semi-finals of the National Plate Competition, where they beat the Highland Club in Inverness 48-10 on 16th April to book their place at BT Murrayfield for Silver Saturday on May 6th. The final saw a hugely impressive 100-10 victory for Hills against Perthshire. Lou scored 1 try in Inverness but found more gears for the final where she touched down an impressive 5 times.
‘’We, all her fellow players and our committee at Hughenden, are delighted at the award and also the progress Lou has made on her sporting odyssey. A Cambridge Blue in the 2019 lightweight Boat race was her first accolade, and then a move to Bristol opened up opportunities on the rugby field as a flying winger and elusive full back. Her move north to start a PhD at the University of Strathclyde 2021, allowing Lou to explore the women’s rugby environment in Glasgow, however her university commitments did not permit Wednesday afternoon recreation, and hence she gravitated to “Hills” in 2022. Since then, there has been no looking back for Lou, as she has honed her skills twice a week training at Hughenden. If she maintains her current form, she will be a strong contender for our 1st XV pool in season 23/24 ” noted Hills Hon President, Bernie Mitchell.
Upon receiving her award, Lou said “We had a tremendous turnout from all our players, women’s and girls, at BT Murrayfield on Saturday and everyone was very appreciative of the way the whole experience had been set up by the SRU Rugby Development Admin staff. It was a tremendous day out with great fun and camaraderie on the bus there and back, however we all felt the karaoke down form Inverness was superior!“
Congratulations on the win Lou, well deserved! A massive well done to ALL the Hills Aspiring Ladies squad in season 2022/2023 also.
