McMillan wins Partick Thistle 22/23 Player of the Year Award
The voting for the McCrea Financial Services 2022/23 Player of the Year award has come to a close and the red and yellow army have chosen a clear winner.
Winning both the Twitter and website polls, Jack McMillan will take the prize home in his first full season as a Partick Thistle player.
The defender signed a two-year deal at Firhill last summer, returning to the club that he spent time on loan with in 2019, aiming to earn more consistent first team opportunities and it’s fair to say he’s achieved that aim.
Jack has been the only player to start all 47 games for Thistle this season, playing over 90% of the team’s minutes across a demanding campaign.
McMillan has done more than just turn up though with his 10 assists evidencing his attacking influence on the team which has often involved some terrific link-up play with fellow Player of the Year nominee Steven Lawless on the right-hand side.
Furthermore, he’s notched three goals – the most recent of which was in Tuesday’s cinch Premiership play-off quarter-final first leg triumph over Queen’s Park at Firhill.
Upon receiving the award, Jack said:
“Obviously, I’d like to give a massive thanks to all the fans who voted for me. I’ve really enjoyed being back at the club this season and the amount of football I’ve been able to play has been brilliant for me personally.
“As a team, it’s been a bit up and down at times but I’ve always tried to give my best each week. We’ve still got a lot to play for this season and everyone in the squad is fully committed to giving it everything in the play-offs.
“Tuesday was a great result and I was pleased to get a goal but there’s a long way to go. So much can happen in 90 minutes of football so we have to be focused and prepared for a difficult game away from home but hopefully we can get the result we need.”
