Mitchell wins March Player of the Month Award!
Following a close round of voting, the Firhill faithful have chosen goalkeeper David Mitchell as the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award for March!
The Thistle support selected the number 31 as their standout for March ahead of Ross Docherty, Stuart Bannigan and Scott Tiffoney following David’s impressive form between the sticks for the Jags.
Mitchell featured in all four games during the month, keeping three clean sheets and conceding just one goal as Kris Doolan’s side continued their outstanding recent defensive record.
It started against Raith Rovers as he stepped in for the injured Jamie Sneddon and made an incredible double save from a Lewis Vaughan penalty on the way to a clean sheet.
He followed that up with shutouts against Greenock Morton and Dundee where David’s control of his area and organisational skills were on full show at Cappielow and Firhill respectively.
Upon receiving the award, Mitchell said:
“It’s been great to be able to do my bit to help the team over the last month as we get into a crucial part of the season. Whether it’s been myself or Jamie in goals, we’ve found a way to keep more clean sheets and that’s a credit to everyone in the whole squad.
“We’ve conceded two goals in eight games and that doesn’t happen with just the goalkeeper playing well. The defensive shape has been excellent, the guys in the midfield have been doing a fantastic job of keeping the ball and protecting the backline and then the guys up front have been working their socks off too.
“Overall, it’s given us a platform to play off in games and that’s something we’ll be looking to continue heading into the last five games of the season. There’s still so much to play for and everyone has their part to play in that.”
