Partick Thistle 2023/24 Player of the Year Nominees Revealed!
The 2023/24 campaign has brought the usual helping of thrills and excitement to everyone involved with Partick Thistle and the season isn’t over yet, however, as the players get set for the cinch Premiership play-offs it’s time for the fans to pick a McCrea Financial Services Player of the Year!
There have been plenty of impressive contributors as the Jags secured their highest league finish since returning to the second tier in 2021 with plenty of goals scored throughout the campaign and an outstanding defensive streak during the run-in but we’ve narrowed it down to four candidates for the Red and Yellow Army to choose from.
Read more about the nominees and make your selection below:
Aidan Fitzpatrick
After hitting the form of his young career during last season’s play-off run, the challenge for Aidan Fitzpatrick was to show he could be that player over the course of a whole campaign and the 23-year-old winger has done that and some! Aidan currently boasts 11 goals and eight assists in his 42 games this season, creating 68 chances all-in-all which is more than any of his Thistle teammates. His 11 goals made it his highest scoring campaign in professional football and made him the youngest Jag to hit double-figure goals since Steven Lawless in 2012/13.
Brian Graham
Crowned as the PFA Scotland Championship Player of the Year at the weekend, it’s no surprise that Brian Graham is up for the club’s prize as well. Taking on the extra responsibility of being captain at the start of the season, Graham was able to gazump last season’s 13 league goals by hitting 20 and finishing as the division top scorer. His 24 goals in all competitions included 12 in 18 games in 2024 as he played a huge part in earning Thistle their play-off spot for a third consecutive season. Never going more than three appearances without a goal, the skipper has featured in 42 of a possible 45 games so far this season.
Steven Lawless
For Thistle’s number 11, Steven Lawless, this season was cruelly cut short but the 33-year-old still had a massive influence on the Jags’ fortunes prior to his Achilles injury at the start of April. Scoring five goals and recording 11 assists in 41 appearances in 2023/24, Lawless set up more goals that any of his teammates and passed 300 Thistle appearances over the course of the campaign with games against Queen’s Park at home and Ayr United away representing his standout displays.
Harry Milne
Having missed the back end of last season through injury, Harry Milne has returned to the Firhill fold in flying form in 2023/24. The left-back started the campaign with a bang, scoring three minutes into the competitive season at Peterhead before following that up in the following game with the winning goal at Tannadice against Dundee United. In total, Harry scored five goals and produced eight assists this year with only Aaron Muirhead playing a higher percentage of available minutes up to this point. Harry has played a key role latterly as the Maryhill men have found their defensive form with four clean sheets in his last five starts.
So, those are your nominees for the 2023/24 McCrea Financial Services Player of the Year award; voting is now open and will close on Wednesday 8th May at 5.30pm.
