Partick Thistle August 2023 Player of the Month Nominees Revealed!
After a busy August which saw Partick Thistle begin their 2023/24 cinch Championship campaign, the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award returns for its second award of the season.
After an opening day performance that saw Thistle have to settle for a point against Raith Rovers, the Jags went on the road for a pair of difficult afternoons away from Maryhill. The month ended with Kris Doolan’s side getting their first three points of the campaign with a win over high-flying Queen’s Park.
In a month where Thistle enjoyed the highs and lows of competitive football, it’s time to decide which of our four nominees should win the August McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
Stuart Bannigan
Our very own Mr Reliable, Stuart Bannigan continues to show his consistency within a competitive Jags midfield. Starting all four games this month, he continues to inspire attacking maneuvers, provide accurate passes and conduct defensive duties to support all areas across the pitch.
Steven Lawless
Our magic midfielder has been instrumental to our attacking prowess this month, his wand of a left foot played a key role in our three goals against Queen's Park. His first assist saw Lawless combine with McMillan, a slick one-two results in a cross which is fired home by fellow nominee Kerr McInroy. Intercepting Jack Spong's through ball, Lawless drives into the opposition half before launching a beautiful, lobbed pass straight to Brian Graham, who finishes his dinner. A beautifully weighted ball from Stevie found its way to McInroy once again, completing his hattrick of assists.
Kerr McInroy
Having only signed on loan at the start of August, Kerr McInroy has made an instant impact to his Thistle career. He was straight into the starting line-up for his debut against Raith Rovers, where he provided two assists. A promising debut led to his inclusion against Queen's Park, where he found himself on the end of a Lawless cross, which he volleyed home to give us the lead. Twelve minutes into the second half, an expert piece of pressing from Thistle led to McInroy through one on one with Callan McKenna, with ice in his veins, he dinked it into the back of the net to secure three points.
Ben Stanway
Our homegrown combative midfielder, Ben Stanway, receives his second nomination this season after a strong end to the month. He replaced Ben Williamson in the closing stages of our Viaplay Cup tie against a strong Hearts side. His performance merited his first league start against Queen's Park, in which he anchored our midfield, providing a solid link in transition from defence to attack. The future is bright for our number twenty-six, who continues to impress with every performance.
So, those are your nominees for the August McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
It’s up to you to cast your vote to make sure your choice wins the prize. Voting is now open and will close at 11am on Thursday, 31st August.
