Partick Thistle January 2025 McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month Nominees Revealed!
After a hectic conclusion to 2024 with five games in December, there were only three fixtures for Kris Doolan’s Jags to contend with in the opening month of the New Year.
Defeats against Dunfermline and Ayr United sat either side of a thrilling win over Hamilton Accies which saw Thistle come from behind thanks to two goals in the last 15 minutes of the game at New Douglas Park.
Now, as the team focus on the first match of February against Greenock Morton on Saturday, it’s time for you to select your McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for January from the following nominees:
Stuart Bannigan
Winner of the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month awards in November and December, Bannigan continues to be a crucial part of the Thistle side as he marshals the centre of the pitch alongside a host of different midfield partners. The Jags’ number eight completed around 90% of his passes in January including 22 successful balls into the final third while also winning the ball back 41 times – as always, contributing in and out of possession.
Luke McBeth
After a solid performance off the bench in difficult circumstances against Dunfermline, where he almost sparked a fight-back with a header McBeth was given the nod to start against Hamilton Accies. Slotting into the back four alongside Lee Ashcroft, the former Glenafton man put in an impressive display as Thistle pulled out the win with Luke involved in the build-up to Brian Graham’s equalising goal in the second half.
David Mitchell
Playing every minute of Thistle’s January games, David Mitchell was back on the pitch for the first time since picking up a significant hamstring injury in July. He made 13 saves in three games with his standout performance coming in the victory at New Douglas Park. In that game. he turned a deflected Reghan Tumilty effort around the post to keep his side in the game before then denying Oli Shaw’s one-on-one attempt to put Accies back in front following the Jags’ equaliser.
Ben Stanway
Responsible for the three points Thistle earned in January, Ben Stanway made the most of the time he had on the pitch. Having not played competitively since early November, the Academy graduate came on as a substitute against Hamilton Accies and popped up with the winning goal as he curled a terrific effort into the corner from the edge of the box to win the points for the Maryhill men. He followed that up with another eye-catching display off the bench at Somerset Park with his shot leading to Harry Milne’s goal as the Jags came up just short against Ayr.
So, those are your nominees for the January McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award. Voting is now open and will close at 11pm on Wednesday 29th January.
