Partick Thistle November 2023 Player of the Month Nominees Revealed!
A lighter November schedule meant there were only three games for Partick Thistle to play this month, but Kris Doolan’s side made the most of the time they did have on the pitch by winning all three of their fixtures.
An impressive away win at Arbroath was followed by a gritty victory over Greenock Morton at home before the Jags partook in the third round of the Scottish Cup, beating Queen’s Park 3-0 to secure progression.
Unsurprisingly, there were a few outstanding individuals contributing towards such a successful month for the team and it’s now time to decide who deserves the McCrea Financial Services November Player of the Month award from the following nominees:
Blair Alston
A perfect example of performing when called upon, Alston played nearly as many minutes in November as he had in the first three months of his Thistle career combined. A cameo appearance at Gayfield Park made for a lowkey start to the month but it was in the subsequent two fixtures that the former Falkirk midfielder really left his mark. He was the match-winner against Morton after coming off the bench at half-time, netting in the last 15 minutes to decide what was a very close run contest in Maryhill and that earned him his first start for the club in the following game against Queen’s Park when he was at it again, scoring the opening goal with a magnificent looping shot which arched over Calum Ferrie and into the top corner.
Aidan Fitzpatrick
Having missed the back end of October through injury, Aidan Fitzpatrick was a welcome returnee at the start of November and the winger made up for lost time by bagging four goals and an assist in three games this month. His first game back was at Arbroath and it took him just 23 minutes to get back among the goals with a lovely chipped finish to make it 1-0; he later added another goal as the Jags secured a big three points in Angus. Then it was back to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill for games against Morton and Queen’s Park with Fitzpatrick setting up the winner against the former and bagging another two goals against the latter making it five goal involvements in three matches.
Ben Stanway
The biggest compliment that can be paid to 19-year-old Ben Stanway is that fans are no longer surprised when he puts in professional display after professional display in the heart of the Jags’ midfield. Our number 26 hadn’t started a senior game for the club at the start of this season but has quickly become a vital cog in the red and yellow machine. Energetic and enthusiastic, Stanway has shown his worth both in and out of possession with plenty more to come from the Thistle Weir Youth Academy graduate.
Wasiri Williams
With injuries plaguing the Thistle squad over the past month or two, particularly in the full-back department, the steady performances of Wasiri Williams on both sides of the defence have been a real boost to Kris Doolan. The Englishman began November filling in for Jack McMillan at right-back and finished the month deputising for Harry Milne at left-back, adapting admirably to that change which took place midway through the first half of our league clash with Morton as Milne went off injured. Challenged with defending against two of the league’s most talented widemen in Jermaine Hylton and Dom Thomas, Wasiri contributed to a defence which conceded only once from open play in November and round off the month with a shutout against a Spiders side who had scored twice in each of their previous three matches.
So, those are your nominees for the November McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
