Partick Thistle September 2023 Player of the Month Nominees Revealed!
After ending August with a win over Queen’s Park, Kris Doolan’s Jags continued to put points on the board throughout September. An action-packed month saw Thistle win three of their four league matches scoring 13 goals in all competitions along the way.
The Maryhill men earned wins at Cappielow and Somerset Park before rounding the month off by beating Dunfermline at home with a slew of players making key contributions as the team climbed to third in the cinch Championship table.
Now it’s time to decide who was the pick of the bunch and deserves to be named the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for September!
Brian Graham
The Thistle skipper scored in all three of the wins the team accrued over the course of September taking him up to eight for the season in all competitions. Our number nine kicked off the month with a double at Cappielow as Thistle beat Morton 4-1 and followed that up with the opening goal at Somerset Park in our following league match. His most recent goal came in a win over Dunfermline as he made it 2-0 having already set up Scott Robinson’s opener earlier in the game.
Steven Lawless
The McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for August has put himself in the mix once again with some dazzling displays in the red and yellow. He scored our first goal of the month, an equaliser at Cappielow, and then found the net again – this time from the penalty spot – in our SPFL Trust Trophy defeat to Queen of the South. However, the midfielder’s standout display came at Somerset Park though as he scored twice from outside the box and set up another goal in a 4-0 triumph. Not satisfied with what he’d already done in September, Lawless also assisted the third goal of the game as we beat Dunfermline at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill this past weekend.
Kerr McInroy
On loan from Kilmarnock, Kerr McInroy has quickly become an important part of Kris Doolan’s Thistle side. The number seven set up Steven Lawless for the aforementioned equaliser in Inverclyde before then teeing up Brian Graham’s opening goal in Ayrshire. He was then back on the scoresheet himself in our last September fixture, heading home from eight yards out to make it 3-0 against Dunfermline. Slotting in nicely behind the striker or in a deeper midfield role, McInroy has already shown the Firhill faithful exactly what he’s capable of.
Lewis Neilson
Although there have been goals aplenty in Thistle fixtures as of late, September proved to be a significant month for the Jags’ defence as they kept their first clean sheets of the 2023/24 season. At the heart of that has been on-loan centre half Lewis Neilson whose growing partnership with Aaron Muirhead has helped Kris Doolan’s side to two shutouts in the last three games. Also showcasing a terrific range of passing, Lewis has impressed as part of the red and yellow rear-guard.
So, those are your nominees for the September McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
