Partick Thistle September 2024 Player of the Month Nominees Revealed!

With the conclusion of September, which produced a mixed bag of results, it’s time for our latest McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award to be voted on by Jags fans.

A disappointing SPFL Trust Trophy exit at home to Alloa Athletic was followed by a change of shape as Thistle travelled to Ayr, earning an excellent point which was backed up a week later with a 1-0 victory at home to Dunfermline Athletic.

The month was completed with a single-goal defeat at Hamilton on Saturday, with Thistle now looking forward to a new month during which they don’t leave the city of Glasgow – three consecutive home fixtures before the short trip south of the river to face Queen’s Park.

For now, it’s time to select your McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for September which we’ve whittled down to a two-horse race – over to you!

Harry Milne

Also shortlisted in July and August, Harry saved his best work this month for the draw in Ayrshire and victory at home a week later, following an assist in an otherwise disappointing afternoon against Alloa. The Thistle number three produced a monstrous display as the Jags came from behind to draw at then-leaders Ayr United. Always a driving force behind Thistle attacks from the back, Harry came close to equalizing with a lung-bursting run minutes before he did eventually find the net, with an outstanding second half header, seeing out the 90 minutes despite coming off worse in a collision with Ayr’s goalkeeper. He then played a key role a week later, capping a clean sheet with an unselfish 70-yard decoy run which enabled Aidan Fitzpatrick to score a valuable winner.

Dan O’Reilly

Like Harry, Dan also made the shortlist in August but had to sit out the Alloa defeat because of a cup suspension incurred before he arrived in Maryhill. At Somerset Park Dan lined up on the left-hand side of a new three-at-the-back defensive shape and, retaken penalty aside, helped keep both Anton Dowds and George Oakley relatively quiet. Seven days later and he bettered that – helping the same back three keep a clean sheet before he conjured up an unlikely late assist for Fitzpatrick, winning a towering header in the middle of the park to set Fitzy free for his last minute winner celebrated wildly, as O’Reilly continues to enhance his reputation with the red and yellow army.
