Shortlist for the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for March 2024 Revealed!
Four of the Warriors' outstanding performers from the month of March are in the running to be named as McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month, after Glasgow Warriors claimed three wins from three matches to keep pace at the top of the BKT United Rugby Championship.
A hard-earned 19-9 victory away to Benetton in Treviso saw Franco Smith’s men kick-off the month in winning fashion, before returning home with a 17-13 win over Cardiff at Scotstoun.
The Warriors then ran in seven tries to close out the month, earning a 45-3 victory over the Scarlets to move into the top two in the standings.
Supporters can vote for their winner until 6pm on Friday 5 April over on the club’s official Twitter account.
The nominees are:
Henco Venter
Experienced back-rower Venter showed up strongly in both attack and defence across the month of March, as the South African continues to contribute heavily in his first season at Scotstoun.
Comfortable across the back-row positions, the back-rower led the charge with ball in hand away to Benetton, time and time again carrying well in the face of the home side’s defence.
No player made more tackles than Venter in Saturday’s away win over the Scarlets, as he made all 20 of his attempted tackles in a resolute defensive shift.
Thomas Gordon
Gordon joins fellow back-rower Venter amongst the nominees, having featured prominently across March in Glasgow colours.
A dominant defensive showing away in Treviso saw the openside earn KubeNet Defender of the Week honours, leading the way with 17 tackles in challenging conditions.
He then featured off the bench away in Llanelli, bringing his all-action style to the closing quarter of proceedings at Parc y Scarlets.
Jamie Dobie
Scrum-half Dobie featured in all three of the club’s fixtures across March, providing a key link in the club’s attack as the Warriors moved up the standings.
The Inverness native’s tactical kicking was critical in the away win over Benetton, helping to set up two of his team’s three tries at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo.
Dobie then provided the scoring pass for Max Williamson in the comeback win over Cardiff at Scotstoun, before sparking the move that led to Kyle Rowe’s hat-trick try at Parc y Scarlets last weekend.
Tom Jordan
Jordan’s versatility was on full display across March, starting all three matches at inside centre as well as providing cover in the fly-half jersey.
The former Ayrshire Bull crossed for the crucial third score in the 19-9 triumph over Benetton, linking up with Stafford McDowall to receive the scoring pass and dive over under the posts.
No Warrior has made more clean breaks in the BKT URC this season than Jordan’s tally of 13, the latest of which resulted in Rowe’s hat-trick-securing try on Saturday night.
