Venter Wins His First Warrior of the Month Award!

Henco Venter thanked the Warrior Nation after being voted as McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for March, following a series of standout performances for Franco Smith’s squad.

The South African back-rower earned 57% of the public vote to take home the trophy for the first time since arriving at the club last summer, helping Glasgow Warriors to three wins from three in the BKT United Rugby Championship across the month.

A relentless display in challenging conditions saw Venter lead from the front with ball in hand away to Benetton, time and time again carrying into the home side’s defence as Glasgow earned a vital 19-9 win over their hosts.

He then showed his power in defence in a 45-3 dismantling of the Scarlets, making all 20 of his attempted tackles in a physical performance in west Wales.

A product of the famous Grey College, Venter has quickly become a regular feature in the matchday 23 for Smith’s men, making 14 appearances to date this season in all competitions.

“It’s a massive honour,” Venter told glasgowwarriors.org.

“To be voted for by the supporters is a very humbling feeling, and I’m just grateful I’ve been able to give back to this club every time I’ve been selected.

“I’m absolutely loving life in Glasgow. I love this club and I love living in this city, and everyone has been so welcoming. It’s been next-level for my family and I, I can’t thank everyone enough.

“It’s an exciting time of year – every match counts from now until the end of the season, and every week you know you have to play at the top of your game. We’re looking forward to making sure the hard work pays off.”

As part of the award, Venter also receives a donation to a charity of his choice courtesy of McCrea Financial Services, the back-rower electing to donate to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity - who McCrea recently announced as one of our charity partners for the new charity fundraising year - as preparations continue for next weekend’s Plaster It Purple clash with the Sharks at Scotstoun.

“The work the team at the hospital do is incredibly inspirational to all of us at the club,” said Venter.

“To be able to help give back to everyone there, both throughout the year and with the Plaster It Purple fixture next weekend, is fantastic and I’m happy to help however I can.”
